The second tour is to the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) which is currently about 80% complete in its decommissioning process. Southern California Edison is safely decommissioning San Onofre in full compliance with state and federal regulations- come see for yourself! The tour walk path is on uneven surfaces, and there are no seats available along the route. Visitors must be able to stand for the duration of the two-hour tour and must be able to walk the tour route without walking aids or assistance.
In this tour, you will:

Learn about the history of SONGS and its transition into decommissioning.

Hear from project experts about how spent nuclear fuel is safely managed and stored.

From an overlook, view the process of decommissioning, and understanding the engineering, environmental stewardship, and safety measures.

The tour will last approximately two hours and takes place entirely outdoors. Visitors must be able to walk a short distance to a viewing area that overlooks the site. The walk path is on uneven surfaces, and there is no seating available along the route. Visitors must be able to stand for the duration of the 2.5 hour tour and must be able to walk the tour route without walking aids or assistance. Please note - you will not be going inside any buildings during the tour.
Valid ID, closed toe/closed heel sturdy shoes and long pants are required for site entry.
